The Department of Accounting
was established in 1987 under the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management
Sciences. The department offers a four-year program of studies
leading to Bachelor of Accounting degree with honours.
The
Bachelor of Accounting degree prepares students to face the challenges
of a modern accounting and business profession. The program combines
an innovative structure with a distinctive teaching philosophy
in order that student not only gain the appropriate knowledge
but are also able to use skills effectively within their chosen
career. Our aim is to offer quality program in order to develop
a balanced graduate with high degree of professionalism and moral
excellence.
The department is fully committed to the provision of the high
standard of teaching. A small group, problem-centred teaching
philosophy complements the use of an up-to-date technology and
training facilities.
The International Islamic University Malaysia Bachelor of Accounting
Degree is accredited by Public Services Department, Malaysia and
The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). Hence, graduates
of this program, after fulfilling 3 years of relevant experience
will qualify as accountants as provided for by the MIA.
Holders
of the International Islamic University Malaysia Bachelor of Accounting
Degree has been granted exemption from a number of examination
papers by The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants
(MICPA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
and Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries Association (MAICSA)
and the chartered Associatian of certified Accounting.
Career development has been an integral part of the Department
of Accounting experience. A wide variety of corporations visit
the department annually to recruit our graduates. This includes
leading audit firms e.g. KPMG Peat Marwick, Arthur Andersen &
Co., PricewaterhouseCoopers, etc. Over the past years the number
of companies which holds career and recruitment talks has been
on the increase. In addition, several leading corporations consult
the Department for their recruitment needs from time to time.
The Department continues to work towards its objectives of producing
well-rounded intellectuals and professionals who are committed
to the promotion of Islamic principles and disciplines. All of
our graduates have been successful in securing jobs with various
sectors such as public accounting, auditing, consulting, finance,
banking and general management. Some pursue professional careers
in numerous accounting firms.
The
department also offer a Master & Ph.D in Accounting program.The
Master degree including course work and research component.
For
PhD the department in happy to consider proposal from prospective
candidate in Islamic accounting and related areas.
Going forward, the Department aspires to develop a more rigorous
programs in Accounting from an Islamic perspective. Courses in
this area are being offered and taught by our qualified lecturers
and international experts. Realising the increasing awareness
and need for Islamic banking and finance, our graduates are actively
involved in developing accounting practices in various banks and
finance institution.
